HCMC selects new investor for underground tunnel project

Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen had selected a new investor for the traffic project of Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho Intersection and the third phase of Rach Dia Bridge, the city’s Department of Transport reported.

Accordingly, the Construction and Investment Project Management Board of HCMC takes the title from the former investor Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Corporation (IPC). Besides, the city People’s Committee also appointed the Compensation and Site Clearance Management Board of District 7 as the investor in the compensation and site clearance process of the traffic project. 

Mr Tuyen wants the change to comply with current regulations and ensure effectiveness, schedule and quality of the project.

Reportedly, the three-floor undergrounding tunnel project at Nguyen Van Linh- Nguyen Huu Tho Intersection is designed like 60-meter-diameter circular island. Meanwhile, the two tunnels on Nguyen Van Linh Street spread nearly 480 meters along Nguyen Van Linh- Nguyen Huu Tho Intersection in the first phase of the project. 

Each tunnel consists of three lanes for vehicles, with a width of 13.75 meters for each lane, and allows a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour. 

The project’s first phase was implemented in 2016-2017 period, whereas two more overpasses and two tunnels are set to start in the later phase, with total investment of around VND 1.780 trillion ($ 76.7 million). 

Once completed, the project will help ease traffic congestion and connect HCMC with the Southern neighboring provinces.
