The plan was revealed at a meeting between Tran Vinh Tuyen, Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee and relevant agencies with authorities of District 4 about socio-economic tasks this year.

At the meeting, Tran Hoang Quan, Chairman of District 4 People’s Committee said the local authorities will clear 1,771 slums along canals and rivers across the city, so there will be a high demand of resettlement houses. According to Mr Quan, District 4 needs 1,223 resettlement apartments for residents affected by the clearance.

HCMC People’s Committee has given the green light to the petition of District 4 for developing two resettlement and social housing projects but these projects have not been kicked off due to some bottlenecks in procedures.

In addition, People’s Committee of District 4 also called for investment in some projects of removing slumps in canals as for three years, no investor has shown their interest to the project under the form of PPP (Public-private partnership). Instead of waiting for PPP investors, the district asked for permission to spend its public budget on these projects.

Deputy Chairman Tuyen asked the district authorities to improve achievement in 2019 including administrative reform to facilitate residents and businesses' operation.
