Reportedly, the consultancy agencies are now working on feasibility report and environmental impact assessment to submit to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
Addressing the meeting on the project’s progress, Minister The urged the consultants to quickly submit the feasibility study to the ministry for review and appraisal, so that the ministry can send it to the Government for approval in early June.
Minister The said that the ministry will coordinate with the Committee for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises to finalise plans towards mobilising capital for the project.
According to the Planning and Investment Department at the ministry, the consulting unit on March 15 had presented the third version of the feasibility study to Airports Corporation of Vietnam, which had been assigned to conduct the study, for consideration and feedback. The unit later sent an environmental impact assessment report on the project to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on March 20.
The plan is expected to be approved in October this year by the Government after being discussed at the National Assembly. After it gets green light from the Government, investors will implement biding, designing, capital mobilizing activities for the construction of the new airport.
At the meeting, Minister The lauded the progress in the project’s ground clearance, asking Dong Nai province, in which the airport is located, to distribute parts of compensations within this year.

Long Thanh International Airport has a total area of more than 5,580 ha, spreading across six communes in Long Thanh District, the southern province of Dong Nai. It is set to have a total investment of 336.63 trillion VND (14.8 billion USD), with construction divided into three phases.
In the first phase, a runway and a passenger terminal, along with other supporting works, will be built to serve some 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo each year. This phase is hoped to be finished by 2025.
In the second phase, an additional runway and passenger terminal will be constructed to serve 50 million passengers and 1.5 million tonnes of cargo per year.
Following the third phase, the airport will be able serve 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo annually.
As for plans to connect the airport’s operations with the surrounding localities, the ministry suggested developing key rail and road routes to link the airport directly with HCMC, especially Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
In addition, MoT announced that the Government has approved an investment of VND900 billion ($38.7 million) for construction of Quan Lo- Phung Hiep road through Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau in the Mekong Delta region. It is one of 14 most pivotal traffic projects approved by the National Assembly by giving state budget of VND15 trillion for the 2016 – 2020 period.
It is expected that the work will start in late September, 2019 and open to traffic in the fourth quarter of next year.
