Besides this, the Vietnam National University in HCMC will serve as a hi-tech education center in this eastern innovation urban area, while the Truong Tho future urban zone, which will be formed from a port, will be part of the project.
The project will cover the city’s districts 2, 9 and Thu Duc, according to Sasaki Associates Inc, which won the top prize in an international competition on concepts for the project.
To create these zones, U.S.-based planning and design firm Sasaki suggested the formation of a company that would be responsible for developing the project.
Also, the three districts need to be governed under one administrative agency to assist with the project’s development.
The city will need to have a special economic system to attract talent and investors to the project and should prioritize existing sectors and develop hi-tech ones to leverage software technology to promote innovation activities, said the firm’s representative.
Addressing the event, Nguyen Thanh Phong, chairman of the municipal government, said that the city will focus on developing public spaces and encouraging the growth of innovation startup activities.
Meanwhile, the city’s Party chief, Nguyen Thien Nhan, said that the execution of the project should not affect the environment. In addition, it should be linked with the southwest and southeast regions.
Nhan also suggested the three districts be integrated into one city under the governance of HCMC, adding that a steering board should be founded to monitor the planning and investment activities in these districts.
