The Thua Thien Hue People’s Committee officially opened the Monitoring and Operation Center for Smart City on July 25, based on Viettel’s smart city platform.

The Center simultaneously implements ten smart city monitoring services: processing of images from individuals around the province; urban surveillance cameras (filming traffic violations, monitoring urban order and safety, and providing general support for traffic planning and development); warning messages; monitoring of local media; electronic card issuance to government workers and officials; public administrative service monitoring; electronic advertising monitoring; environmental monitoring; information security monitoring; and fishing vessel monitoring.

In particular, receiving images from individuals provides contact with the people, who can highlight inadequacies in social life directly with the government via the Center’s website, accompanied by images and video of the scene. These are recorded and transferred to authorities for handling. The process of receipt and processing is published, so people can monitor the process until a result is released.

Urban monitoring services through camera sensors also have a positive impact on society in the central province. Data from cameras installed throughout Thua Thien Hue will be transferred to the Center, and the system then will analyze and issue warnings on any violations. The Center will check and verify the level of warning and assist the police or authorized professional agencies in handling the matter.

There are now 85 agencies that handle images from individuals through the Center, including all professional agencies under the Provincial People’s Committee, all district People’s Committees, and all wards in the city of Hue. There are also a number of central agencies located in the province and important public service units of the Provincial People’s Committee.

Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho, Chairman of the People’s Committee, said the initial results are grounds for optimism that the operating model would continue to grow. “Smart city needs to take people and businesses as a center, so the feasibility of the program will be higher and the actuality will be more effective,” he added.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group, said the model used in Thua Thien Hue applies modern technologies from Industry 4.0 to resolve problems specific to the province. “In the next phase of the project, Viettel will apply a range of digital technology platforms with the aim of ensuring interconnection for this system, with scalability and information security,” he said.

It is expected that the smart city system in Thua Thien Hue will continue to be expanded and completed by Viettel in 2020.
