Recently, the People's Council of Central province Thua Thien - Hue approved a proposal of the provincial People's Committee on funding sources and roadmap to implement phase 1 of the project of preserving, renovating and embellishing Hue Citadel.

Accordingly, Thua Thien - Hue will strive to complete the project of population relocation and ground clearance in area 1 of Hue Citadel by 2025. According to the proposal of provincial People's Committee, the project consists of two phases, with a total cost of VND 4.097 trillion, of which VND 2.735 trillion from the State budget will be used for ground clearance, and VND 1.362 trillion from the local budget and the State Treasury loan to build the resettlement area for residents affected by the project.
The project aims to protect the historical values and preserve the most intact culture of Vietnam left by the predecessors for the future generations; relocate households living in Area 1 to new residential areas, and stabilize and improve their lives’ quality of life. In addition, the local authorities also want to protect and ensure the environment, enhance landscapes and promote values of the monuments, boost tourism sector and create a driving force for socio-economic development.
