The houses are being built with a budget worth 6.4 billion VND (about 275,700 USD).

It is part of activities in response to this year’s Month for Humanitarian Activities, which is designed to last throughout May.

The People’s Committee of Ung Hoa district and the Hanoi Red Cross Association signed a cooperation agreement on the replacement of dilapidated houses in the district in December 2018. Under the agreement, the Hanoi Red Cross and its affiliate allocated more than 3.8 billion VND (163,700 USD) to build 123 houses.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Hanoi Red Cross Association Nguyen Sy Truong said that Ung Hoa is the first locality of Hanoi to be chosen for the project to replace decrepit houses.

The project is hoped to contribute to the national target programme of building new-style rural areas, ensuring social welfare, and facilitating the economic development of poor people, he added.

Nguyen Thi Nen, one of the project’s beneficiaries, said that the support from donors towards building new houses for local people reflects the country’s tradition of helping those in need to ease their difficulties.
