The Government leader remarked that Vietnam has close and effective ties with major financial institutions in the world, including the WB. Therefore, he requested the world lender to offer its consultancy to the Government during its course of development.

Mr. Ousmane Dione congratulated the positive outcomes which Vietnam has attained over the past time amidst global complexities. The guest leader took the occasion to thank Vietnam for closely working with and supporting the international lender over the past time.

Meanwhile, Dione spoke highly of Vietnam’s positive achievements, despite the significant economic fluctuations in the world market.

The WB official also hailed the Government for its cooperation with and support of the bank in executing joint projects in Vietnam, adding that projects that used nonpreferential loans from the bank’s International Development Association (IDA) have been submitted to the WB leadership.

He pointed out that 2020 is the last fiscal year for Vietnam to use IDA loans and that the WB and some Vietnamese ministries and agencies have reached an agreement to complete five major projects. He called for the Government’s cooperation in the execution of these projects.

The official also urged the Government to spend the loans from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, under the WB, on developing critical infrastructure, supporting Vietnam’s poor regions and helping its urban areas become a catalyst for growth in the region.

Dione said the WB appreciated Vietnam’s attendance at and contribution to its recent Spring Meetings, jointly held by the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group, as it reflected Vietnam’s role in its cooperation with the financial institution.

On this occasion, the Director also presented to his host the latest WB reports on Vietnam’s socio-economic performance. The WB Vietnam office is preparing important reports to assess its cooperation with Vietnam over the past 25 years and set out future orientations, he affirmed.

In reply, the host leader expressed his gratitude to the WB’s efforts and affirmed that he would direct ministries and sectors to study its reports and chair meetings with relevant agencies to make specific decisions on suggested projects.

The PM also affirmed to positively work with the WB to celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary of Vietnam-WB cooperation.
