Construction kicked off at wind farm in Mekong Delta province

A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday in Tra Vinh province to start the construction of the Korea-Tra Vinh wind power plant, which is a joint project of Tra Vinh Wind Power Co., Ltd No. 1 (TWPC) and its South Korean partners.

The wind farm covers nearly 1,200 hectares of water surface and land, said Choi Hyeong Suk, General Director of the TWPC. It has 12 turbines with a capacity of 48 MW, producing 180kW of electricity per hour in the first phase, he added.

With total investment of more than VND2.4 trillion (about $120 million), the project is developed by Climate Investor One and Samtan company from South Korea as major investors. As planned, it will be completed by September 2020.

In addition to 12 wind turbine foundations, the wind farm includes an operation management ward, administrative ward, multi-functional buildings and transformer stations.

At the event, Vice Chairman of Tra Vinh People’s Committee Tran Anh Dung said the wind farm is expected to create a clean energy source and make important contributions to the local socio-economic development. The official pledged that local government will give optimal conditions for the investors to implement the project.

Besides, Deputy Head of the Tra Vinh Economic Zone Management Board Nguyen Quynh Thien announced Tra Vinh government has granted investment licences to three wind power projects including Duyen Hai, Korea-Tra Vinh and Hiep Thanh.
