At a recent meeting with the Economics Committee under National Assembly, Vice Chairman of Dong Nai People’s Committee Tran Van Vinh said it was urgent to build the roads to provide access to the airport, which is expected to be built next year.
He said bomb and mine clearance also needs to be completed on land that will be handed over to investors of the airport project. Besides, over 20 households will have to live in temporary quarters and then relocate to a resettlement area.
The Southern province is speeding up construction progress of two resettlement areas which are expected to be kicked off this September.
Dong Nai government has approved a project of over VND300 billion for vocational training, job creation and resettlement for affected residents.
Mr Le Dinh Tho, Deputy Minister of Transport said Dong Nai had conducted the ground clearance work in a transparent manner. He proposed the construction of the connecting roads to the airport should be completed first.
He added the Ministry of Transport next month would issue the final feasibility report for Long Thanh airport, which will include information about traffic systems around the airport.
In addition, the airport will have a transport system linking to Ho Chi Minh City and regional localities.
Dong Nai should pay attention to the employment, housing and education needs of workers, noted Chairman of the National Assembly’s Economics Committee Vu Hong Thanh.
Since the airport has great significance to the country’s development, Dong Nai should work closely with the central agencies to accelerate progress, he added. Beside, the committee also told the province to seek for other funds to avoid relying solely on the State budget.
Built on a total area of over 5,580 hectares, Long Thanh airport will be located in six communes in Dong Nai’s Long Thanh District, with total investment estimated at VND336.63 trillion.
