The subsidies are similar to those for users of public bus and BRT services.
In particular, certified contributors to the nation, people with disabilities and children under 6 years old are exempted from fares while fares will be halved for students, workers at industrial parks and senior citizens.
A 30% discount will be offered to public servants and office workers when buying collective tickets.
Under a resolution by the Hanoi authorities, passengers will enjoy free rides on Line 2A, which runs between Cat Linh and Yen Nghia Stations, for the first 15 days of official service.
After that, the base fare between two adjacent stations will be VND7,000 (US$0.3), with each additional kilometre costing VND600. The fare for the entire 13.1 kilometres will be VND15,000 (US$0.65).
It is estimated that those given subsidies will account for about 12% of the line’s ridership.
