Industrial parks & economic zones lure $10bn in FDI this year

Industrial parks (IPs) and economic zones (EZs) in Vietnam attracted 397 FDI projects with estimated registered capital of $10.1 billion in the first nine months of this year, according to the latest report from the Department of Economic Zone Management at the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Vietnam now has 8,970 FDI projects in IPs and EZs with total registered capital of $187.4 billion.

There were also 388 domestic investment projects with total newly-registered capital of VND96.9 trillion ($4.1 billion) in the first nine months.

IPs and EZs house 9,140 domestic investment projects with total registered capital of more than VND2,070 trillion ($89.2 billion).

There are currently 327 IPs and EZs in Vietnam on a total area of some 96,100 ha, including an industrial area of 65,700 ha, or 68.4 per cent. Of these, 256 are in operation with occupancy rates of 75 per cent and 71 are currently under construction.

Seventeen coastal EZs have been established on a total land and water surface area of more than 845,000 ha. The Ninh Co EZ in northern Nam Dinh province is already in the country’s development planning but has not been established as yet.

Thirty-five IPs are located within EZs on a total area of about 14,000 ha. Twenty, on an area of 7,800 ha, are in operation, while 15 on 5,800 ha are under construction.

It is estimated that 224 of the 256 IPs and EZs in operation have concentrated wastewater treatment facilities.
