Khanh Hoa revokes long-stalled hotel project in Nha Trang

Local authorities have recently withdrawn license of an amusement-hotel project in central Nha Trang, after the investor failed to start work for 10 years.

Approved in 2009, Con Nhat Tri complex project consists of a five-star hotel, an amusement area and commercial apartments. The project covers an area of 21 hectares, with total investment cost of VND1.2 trillion, equivalent to $ 51.7 million.

However, after a decade, work on it has never started. The long delay has made over 7,000 people in Vinh Phuoc commune, Nha Trang, whose lands were to be taken over for the project, in limbo.

The project was assigned to Pham Tran Investment LLC by provincial authorities in May 2015. However, the company last year said it was unable to acquire the lands, and the task required a lot of money, time and human resources.

According to Nguyen Sy Khanh, Deputy Chairman of Nha Trang People’s Committee, the project was meant to improve infrastructure in Con Nhat Tri, which is an unorganized area and not suitable for a tourism hub like Nha Trang.

An official of Khanh Hoa Department of Planning and Investment said in case no private investor is keen on this project, the local government needs to use its own budget to improve Con Nhat Tri.

Official figures show Nha Trang received 6.3 million tourists last year, an increase of 16 percent over 2017. Most of foreign visitors came from China and Russia.
