The government of Ho Chi Minh City is reviewing plans to expand roads leading to Cat Lai Port, easing the chronic traffic congestion and directly benefiting businesses operating at the port and logistics providers.

The expansion of Nguyen Thi Dinh Street, stretching from My Thuy Intersection to the Cat Lai ferry area, is currently under consideration.

The city will also build a road linking the ports of Cat Lai and Phu Huu and expand a section of Nguyen Duy Trinh Street from Ring Road 2 to a road leading to Phu Huu Port.

The HCMC Transport and Finance departments and the local governments of Districts 2 and 9 were asked to seek funding from companies and individuals that will directly benefit from the road connecting the Phu Huu and Cat Lai ports.

Meanwhile, the city’s government also asked the HCMC Department of Planning and Investment and investors to work on another road project, running from Cat Lai Port to Ring Road 2, and to propose measures to the municipal government to allocate adequate funding.

This 1.5-kilometer road project requires roughly VND430 billion from the municipal budget and VND80 billion from investors. Despite being approved, work on the project has yet to begin.

Earlier, the city had constructed a tunnel and an overpass at My Thuy Intersection, which is a traffic hotpot crucial for access to Cat Lai Port. As a result, traffic congestion in the area has eased slightly.

However, a road section stretching from the intersection to the Cat Lai ferry station still suffers regular traffic congestion as it is narrow and has to handle a large volume of container trucks traveling to and from Cat Lai Port every day.
