The workshop aims to create a forum for domestic and foreign experts to exchange and present research results and international experiences and to provide feasible solutions to apply in investment and development of the region’s transport infrastructure in the form of public-private partnership (PPP).

In addition to the dozens of reports and comments from delegates at the event, the conference made unanimous recommendations to solve the "bottlenecks" in bringing Ho Chi Minh City’s infrastructure in commensurate with the potential of the most developed economic region in the country (the Southeast region), as well as in connection with the national key rice and aquatic production area (the Southwest region).

They proposed to the National Assembly and the Government to continue using the approved transport sector-related planning to implement the investment projects by the transportation industry in the region, while allocating sufficient capital for transport infrastructure connecting Ho Chi Minh City with other regions and improving the institutional investment system in the form of PPP as a basis for calling domestic and foreign investors to participate in the region’s projects.

VNUHCM Head, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Huynh Thanh Dat, emphasised that the GDP growth rate has remained at a high level for the past 20 years, averaging 7.2% per year. This growth rate is creating an increasing demand for transportation.

The university, along with its network of reputable experts, would continue to pay high priority to research on the socio-economic development of the Southern key economic region and the Mekong Delta, including that of transport infrastructure and related areas.
