The meeting on investment and management of home-sharing services was held by the Tourism Magazine in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and relevant agencies.

Home-sharing services not only help home owners to raise their income but also gain profit. For example, a home owner in HCMC can earn VND11.5 million ($492.2) a month in peak season and VND8.3 million monthly in off-peak season on average.

In recent years, major cities like Hanoi, HCMC, and Da Nang have seen has an explosive growth of hoem-sharing services, with a surge in number of international visitors arrivals.

HCMC, Hanoi and Da Nang reported annual growth of 97 percent, 112 percent and 111 percent, respectively, in the number of accommodations available for rent on Airbnb. Home owners can offer private rooms, entire home or sharing rooms for guests.

Many people have reportedly bought apartments in big cities like Hanoi, Da Nang and HCMC to rent out rooms for short-term stays, which has generated 20-50 percent higher incomes than long-term contracts, said Outbox Consulting.

Home-sharing services are also mushrooming in well-known tourism spots like Sa Pa, Lao Cai, Ha Long, Da Lat, etc.

Strong growth in the lucrative market also triggers challenges and difficulties that home owners and local administrations need to resolve.
