In case contractors are selected without arising situations, construction of the North-South expressway invested under the public-private partnership (PPP) may start in April 2020, VnEconomy reported, citing Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The in a report sent to the National Assembly.
According to the Resolution of the National Assembly, the project to build a number of expressway sections on the North - South route on the East side in the period of 2017 - 2020 will have a total investment of VND118 trillion (US$5.06 billion), of which, VND55 trillion (US$2.36 billion) will be sourced from state budget.
In the period of 2017 - 2020, construction of the 654-kilometer North-South expressway is divided into 11 component projects, including three public investment projects and eight investment projects in the form of PPP.
In terms of technical design and cost estimates, Minister Nguyen Van The said that for the three public investment projects, technical design and bidding packages will be completed in May and June 2019. In addition, My Thuan Bridge 2 construction is expected to be completed in November 2019.
For the eight investment projects in the form of PPP, it is expected that by the end of September 2019, technical design and cost estimation will be completed.
Regarding the selection of contractors, Minister The informed that as of May 16, 2019, 81 sets of prequalification applications were sold. The interested contractors come from Vietnam, China, Japan, South Korea and France.
The Ministry of Transport will organize the appraisal and approval of prequalification results for all eight investment component projects in the form of PPP in early September 2019.
Together, all the sections will stretch 654 kilometers as part of the 2,000-kilometer expressway from northern Nam Dinh province to Vinh Long Province to the southwest of Ho Chi Minh City. The expressway is scheduled to be finished in 2025.
