Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a high-tech dairy farm project, which will be home to over 20,000 cows and a processing plant with designed capacity of 300 tonnes of milk a day, developed by large dairy producer TH Group in Nong Cong district, the central province of Thanh Hoa, on May 8.

TH Group has broken ground for construction of a large cow farm and milk-processing plant in Thanh Hoa province with the attendance of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The project was built at the total cost of 3.8 trillion VND (162.6 million USD), covering 1,354 ha of land in Yen My and Cong Binh communes. It has a herd of 20,000 cows and a processing plant designed at a capacity of 300 tonnes of milk per day.

With the establishment of the this new high-tech dairy farm, local dairy giant TH Group has now been able to reinforce its dairy brand in Vietnam, with three large-scale dairy farm projects in the provinces of Nghe An, Phu Yen and Ha Giang.

By 2025, the group expects to have up to 200,000 cows across its farms.

TH will also develop material areas in Cam Thuy, Tho Xuan and Thach Thanh districts, and work with local farmers to ensure a stable food supply for dairy cows.

Besides creating high value-added agricultural products, the project is expected to generate stable jobs and income for thousands of local labourers, enhance state budget collection, and speed up economic structure shifting.

Advanced technology will be applied for sewage and emission systems, while trees will be planted to reduce the environmental impact.

At the ceremony, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong laid stress on the project’s significance, saying that it plays an important role in agricultural restructuring.

Once operational, the project will increase its total herd to 42,000 cows and total milk productivity to 166,000 tonnes per year, he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dinh Xung asked local authorities and people to join hands with the investor to remove bottlenecks in land clearance and administrative procedures.

Competent agencies must ensure sufficient power and water, as well as carry out preferential investment policies so that the project can be put into operation soon, he said, adding that the investor should mobilise resources and comprehensively implement economic and technical measures for sustainable development.

TH Group has also taken the initiative to introduce its sustainable development model, in which farmers are given and equipped with skills and techniques, in a bid to produce qualified and standardised milk for export.

Advanced technologies being employed in the process include cloud computing, internet of things and centralised farming model.

The group has worked with farmers utilising its high-tech and sustainable development model in Dalat. Once the model is successfully rolled out in Thanh Hoa, TH Group will multiply this model to other provinces like Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh and so on.

TH Group is currently the owner of the largest hi-tech dairy farm in Asia. This farm is located in Nghe An province with 45,000 dairy cows and equipped with the fresh milk manufacturing plant with capacity of 200,000 tonnes of milk a year in the first phase.
