Thứ Hai, 01/04/2019 - 03:00

The Hanoi’s second metro line, which runs from Nhon to the city’s Railway Station, is now 48 percent finished and set to be put into operation next year, the management board reported.

According to the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB), 60 percent of the elevated stations and 98 percent of the elevated sections have been complete.

The contractor said they are now putting up V-shaped roofs on the elevated stations so that they can be washed clean when it rains. For the construction of the underground station, a part of Tran Hung Dao street will be closed to traffic by the end of March.

As planned, the Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station route runs 12.5 kilometers from Nhon in Nam Tu Liem district’s Tay Tuu ward, through Kim Ma Street to Hanoi Railway Station in the city center. The route includes 8.5 kilometers on elevated tracks through 8 stations and four kilometers underground through 4 stations.

Construction of the metro line was kicked off in 2010 with the total cost estimated at $1.2 billion. It is scheduled to be put into operation from 2017 but delays have pushed the cost up to $1.55 billion.

The elevated section is set to be commercially operated next year and the underground section by 2022.

The Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station route is one of several planned for Hnaoi to ease traffic congestion and reduce emissions. Apart from this route, the first rout from Cat Linh to Ha Dong, with the length of 13 kilometers, is expected to begin operations in April.
