South Phu Quoc – home to luxury resorts
Statistics from the Kien Giang provincial Tourism Department showed that Phu Quoc welcomed 402,642 visitors in September during the low tourist season. The figure represented a year-on-year rise of 29.7 percent. Of the total visitors, 43,590 were foreign tourists, up 90.6 percent compared to figures over the same period last year. During the month, the island district earned 493.7 billion VND from tourism activities, representing an increase of 40.3 percent from last September.
This influx was reflected strongly over the two days of the National Holiday, where the Island served 32,000 tourists, an increase of 32.1 percent. Tourism alone generated a revenue of 30.1 billion VND – 58.2 percent increase of that last year.
In the first nine months of this year, Phu Quoc welcomed nearly 3 million visitors, earning 4.2 trillion VND, according to the department.
The breakthrough in Phu Quoc’s tourism is thanks to luxury resorts in South Phu Quoc invested by Sun Group. South Phu Quoc has become a magnet for tourists instead of North Phu Quoc.

Added to this, the five-star resort JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay has been featured on a list of 50 best resorts in the world in 2018 from US-based luxury and lifestyle travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller. It is also honoured by the World Travel Awards as the Best New Resort in 2017.

In its report released in September, CBRE said that thanks to visa exemption policies for five European countries and the popularity of low-cost airlines, international arrivals to Vietnam have been increasing by 27 percent on average over the past two years, making Vietnam among countries with the highest tourism growth in East Asia.
CBRE also affirmed that with the strong tourism growth, resort property will be an attractive investment channel for investors. Furthermore, they feel that compared to other destinations in Southeast Asia, such as Phuket and Bali, the resort property market in Vietnam has a great potential for development.
