Thirty new industrial clusters set to be established in Hanoi this year

The capital city has set a target of developing 30 new industrial clusters (ICs) by the end of 2019, according to Director of the Hanoi’s Department of Industry and Trade Le Hong Thang.

At the opening of the 9th session of the Hanoi People’s Council on July 8, Mr Thang said because the ICs will be situated in urban areas, top priority should be given to projects in clean and hi-tech industries.

The official als added that Hanoi authorities have made great efforts to attract both foreign and domestic enterprises to ICs over the years, helping to affirm the city’s position as the leading economic hub in the Northern region of Vietnam.

Hanoi government has approved the establishment of 11 Ics so far this year. At present, the city is home to 70 operational ICs, with a total of 3,100 businesses on an area of over 1,300ha. 

Under Hanoi’s industrial cluster development master plan for 2020, with a vision to 2030, the capital city is expected to have 159 Ics, covering a total area of over 3,200ha by 2030.

Untill 2020, some 138 industrial clusters, with an area of more than 2,620ha, are expected to be established in Hanoi. About 52 among them are newly established zones, with a combined area of 590ha.

Between 2020 and 2030, five existing ICs will be expanded with a total area of 45.4ha, in addition to 21 new ones covering 536ha will be developed.
Accordingly, industrial complexes located in five northern districts, namely Long Bien, Gia Lam, Me Linh, Dong Anh, and Soc Son, will give priority to several sectors including electronics and information technology, automotive, engineering, new material production, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, among others.

Meanwhile, industrial complexes in the two Southern districts of Phu Xuyen and Thuong Tin will focus on luring projects in high-tech farming and supporting industries, especially those serving the textile and garment, footwear, mechanical engineering and electronics sectors.

Those in the city’s Western part, such as Hoa Lac, Mieu Mon, Hoa Lac, will be involved in bio-industries for agriculture, construction materials and hi-end furniture production, hi-tech industries.
