During a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on February 21 in Hanoi, the bank official congratulated Vietnam on its impressive achievements in economic growth and social welfare.

Many countries could learn from Vietnam’s experience in successfully transferring from a low-income to middle-income nation, while ensuring macroeconomic and social stability, he said.

He hoped that Vietnam would continue playing an important role in developing the region and sub-region.

Diop appreciated Vietnam’s power energy development, saying that the WB is ready to assist Vietnam in building the north-south expressway and waterway, as well as developing energy and a power network, especially those connecting solar power systems to the national grid.

PM Phuc thanked WB for its support for Vietnam’s socio-economic development in recent years, particularly in poverty reduction, infrastructure and energy development, mining, financial infrastructure, and digitalisation, while affirming that Vietnam commits to strictly fulfilling its agreements with WB.

Vietnam holds great investment demand for development, he said, asking for WB’s assistance to develop the key fields of clean energy, infrastructure, and to improve institutions under the public-private partnership (PPP) investment format.

The Vietnamese leader said he hopes WB will work closer with Vietnam, providing the country with technical assistance and non-refundable aid during its development process.
